With the trees changing color and both of us having the day off work it was time for a scenic drive along the river between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Today’s drive was delightful! We kicked things off with a fantastic breakfast at one of our local favorites, the Rusty Cow. The food was amazing, and the staff were so friendly. I went for the standard breakfast, while my wife tried the corned beef hash and both dishes were delicious. If you’re in the area, you should check it out at 2 S Pine Dr, Circle Pines, MN 55014.

Our next stop was well worth the drive! I had the s’mores because it’s that time of year, and let me tell you, it was amazing. My partner went for the chocolate-covered cherry iced drink, and it tasted exactly like a chilled chocolate-covered cherry, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite treats. The building is easy to spot with its bright red paint. As you walk in, you’ll see where all the magic happens on the left and a cozy seating area on the right. Towards the back, there’s a small food prep area with pastries, sandwiches, and soup. If I hadn’t already been full of breakfast, I would have tried the chicken wild rice soup. I would give Sunrise Coffee 3.5 out of 5 cups. If I am in the area again, I will be stopping back. Location: W6442 WI-35, Bay City, WI 54723

We headed next to Pepin Heights Apple. The assortment of apples, spices, soups, and treats was amazing. We purchased 4 bags of apples so we can make apple crips and pies. by using a variety of apples in the baking it gives you a wonderful depth of flavors and textures. The lady running the store was very friendly and helpful with where products were and how some of the apples came to be. I would highly recommend stopping by and picking up some of the tasty apples. Location: 1775 S, 61 US-61, Lake City, MN 55041

The scenic drive took us on several winding roads, where we encountered some of our majestic feathered and furry friends. Eagles and hawks soared gracefully by the river, while numerous deer peacefully grazed on acorns, corn, and grass.

“The two deer you see here even joined us as we stopped for ice cream at Salma’s Ice Cream Parlor. As we savored our delightful cones and sundaes, I caught sight of the deer across the street in the park. Location: 3419 St Croix Trail S, Afton, MN 55001

Reluctantly leaving this enchanting scene, we headed for home, knowing we both had to rise early for work the next day. It was an extraordinary day spent with my beautiful wife.
